Parliamentary Special Committee on Disaster-related Study and Monitoring of the Bhote Koshi and Kali Gandaki Corridors

What does this committee do?

Formed by the National Assembly sitting of 15 Asoj 2083 under rule 167 of the National Assembly Rules, 2075, after the Bhotekoshi flood of 10 Bhadra 2083 and the heavy rain of 9–11 Asoj, to study all aspects of the disaster and report to the National Assembly: review disaster-risk preparedness, loss of life and property, search for the missing and affected, rescue, relief and compensation, treatment of the injured, management of the dead and rehabilitation; analyse the impact of climate change; and recommend a roadmap for rehabilitation, reconstruction, risk reduction and climate justice. What does the evidence show?

Disaster response faces very large shocks. The Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi flood of 2026 left 1,377 recovered bodies or human remains, 5,130 people recorded missing and 13,676 rescued (as of 10 September 2026; subject to verification). The government's rapid assessment put total effects at Rs 408.29 billion and recovery needs at Rs 723.32 billion. Climate and disaster risk to hydropower is rising: the 2026 Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi flood caused energy-sector damage of Rs 134.70 billion (89.1% of it to hydropower) and an estimated annual loss of 2,520 GWh of hydropower generation, with recovery needs of Rs 390.62 billion.
