Tharu Commission Act, 2017

What does it do?

• The Act gives effect to the Tharu Commission under Article 263 of the Constitution, to identify the history and culture of the Tharu community, protect and promote its rights and interests, and empower it. • The chair and members must be members of the Tharu community with at least ten years' significant contribution to Tharu rights, development or human rights, hold a bachelor's degree, not be political party members when appointed, be at least 45 and of high moral character. • Every body must cooperate when asked, and the Commission may write to a superior body if cooperation is refused.
