What it must do

Collect complaints against persons or institutions that violate the rights of Adivasi Janajati communities and recommend investigation to the relevant body. What it has delivered

Complaints: during FY 2081/82 the Commission took up complaints received by application, phone, news reports and letters, studied and monitored them, and recommended action to the relevant bodies. Budget: the Commission's allocated budget for FY 2081/82 was Rs 3,56,64,059. Audit: the Auditor General audited Rs 3 crore 79 lakh of the Commission's FY 2081/82 transactions. Where it falls short

No provincial offices: the Act allows offices in the provinces, but the Commission says they have not been set up because of government indifference, which limits its work at provincial level. Overlap: the Auditor General notes that the Commission's duties under its 2074 Act overlap with those given to the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities under its 2058 Act, and says the law should be revised to make the Commission more effective. How to make it stronger

Make implementation of the Commission's recommendations part of how government bodies and officials are assessed, through a legal requirement.आयोगका सिफारिस कार्यान्वयनलाई सरकारी निकाय र पदाधिकारीको कार्यसम्पादन मूल्याङ्कनको आधार बनाउन कानूनी व्यवस्था गर्ने।

Who holds it to account

Annual report: the Commission must submit an annual report to the President, who has it laid before the Federal Parliament through the Prime Minister.
