Support public knowledge

Public knowledge. Public good. How Policy Nepal plans to be funded, and the rules that keep funders out of what we publish.

Where things stand

We are not accepting money yet. There is no donate button, and no one should send money in Policy Nepal’s name. When a lawful way to give is in place, this page will say so and explain exactly how it works.

What support would pay for

  1. Research and editing: reading laws, budgets and audit reports, and checking every figure against its source.
  2. Nepali-language review, so everything reads naturally in both languages.
  3. Keeping data current: the weekly and monthly refreshes of budget, debt, trade and parliamentary records.
  4. Learning tools for citizens, MPs and their staff, offered free to everyone.
  5. Hosting, security and accessibility, so the site stays fast, safe and usable on any phone.

Funding independence (draft policy)

This is a draft. It will apply from the day we first accept money, and any change to it will be published with its date.

  1. No funder can review, approve, change, delay or remove anything we publish, or decide what we research.
  2. Every party, office-holder and institution is covered by the same standards, whoever funds us.
  3. We will not take money for party or campaign purposes, and support never buys a position, endorsement, ranking or placement on this site.
  4. If a funder has an interest in a topic we cover, we will say so on that page.
  5. We will publish who funds us and roughly how much, once a year.

Recognising supporters

We will name a supporter only with their written consent, and remove the name on request. We will never publish a supporter’s political views or use their details for anything else. There are no supporters listed yet, because we have not yet accepted support.

Ways to help now that cost nothing

  1. Share a page with someone who would find it useful.
  2. Read the sources behind a figure and tell us when a correction route opens if something is wrong.
  3. If you are an expert, read how expert contributions will work on Our approach.
