What does it do?

• New recruits to the Nepali Army are selected and appointed by a board chaired by an officer named by the Adjutant General, with the recruiting officer, the unit or training centre commander and a medical officer as members. To enlist, a person must be a Nepali citizen, at least 18 and not over 22 on the last day for applications, found fit in a medical check, and not involved in politics. A Nepali discharged without fault from a foreign army may be taken up to age 35.नेपाली सेनामा नयाँ भर्ना हुने जवानको छनोट र नियुक्ति कार्यरथीले खटाएको अधिकृतको अध्यक्षतामा भर्ना अधिकृत, युनिट वा ट्रेनिङ सेन्टरका कमाण्डिङ अधिकृत र मेडिकल अधिकृत सदस्य रहने बोर्डले गर्छ। भर्ना हुन नेपाली नागरिक, दरखास्त दिने अन्तिम दिनमा १८ वर्ष पूरा भई २२ वर्ष ननाघेको, अस्पताल जाँचबाट योग्य ठहरिएको र राजनीतिमा नलागेको हुनुपर्छ। विदेशी सेनामा नोकरी गरी बिना कसूर छाडी आएका नेपाली नागरिकलाई ३५ वर्षसम्म भर्ना लिन सकिन्छ। Nepal Law Commission Rules 3 and 4, PDF p. 2
• A recruit must bring an identity document from the local body showing name, surname, address and three generations of family names, or a written guarantee of those details from serving soldiers or civil servants of a set rank. A recruit who passes the medical check without it gets 7 days to bring the guarantee. Recruits must have a chest of at least 32 inches and meet a minimum height set for each unit, from 5 ft 3 in to 5 ft 5 in.भर्ना हुन आउने जवानले नाम, थर, वतन र तीन पुस्ताको नाम खुलेको स्थानीय निकायको परिचयपत्र वा ती विवरण ठीक छ भनी तोकिएको दर्जाका बहालवाला सैनिक वा निजामती कर्मचारीले दिएको जमानी ल्याउनुपर्छ। परिचयपत्र नलिई आएको जवानलाई अस्पताल जाँचमा पास भएपछि साक्षी ल्याउन ७ दिनको म्याद दिइन्छ। छातीको घेरा कम्तीमा ३२ इन्च हुनुपर्छ र प्रत्येक युनिटका लागि ५ फिट ३ इन्चदेखि ५ फिट ५ इन्चसम्मको न्यूनतम उचाइ तोकिएको छ। Nepal Law Commission Rule 6(c), (e) and (g), PDF pp. 3-4
• A person who enlists by hiding a disqualification can be punished with imprisonment under the Military Act, and so can a guarantor whose statement proves false. Anyone in the unit who knows of such a case and does not report it can also be punished. An enlistment is void at any time if the person turns out not to be a Nepali citizen or to be involved in politics, and recruits who cannot reach the required standard after one year of training are discharged.अयोग्यता लुकाई झुक्याएर भर्ना भएको व्यक्ति सैनिक ऐनबमोजिम कैदको सजायको भागी हुन्छ र झुट्ठा ठहरिएको परिचयपत्र वा साक्षी बस्ने व्यक्ति पनि सजायको भागी हुन्छ। त्यस्तो कुरा थाहा पाएर पनि प्रतिवेदन नगर्ने युनिटको व्यक्ति पनि सजायको भागी हुन्छ। भर्ना भएको व्यक्ति नेपाली नागरिक नभएको वा राजनीतिमा लागेको पछि ठहरिए जुनसुकै बखत भर्ना बदर हुन्छ र एक वर्षको सैनिक तालिमपछि पनि नियमित स्तरमा पास हुन नसक्ने सैनिकलाई खारेज गरिन्छ। Nepal Law Commission Rules 6(a), 6(d), 8 and 9, PDF pp. 3-5
• Recruiting officers must send the roll and signed enlistment form to the army records office within 7 days (outside the Kathmandu Valley, 7 days plus travel time).
