Military Police Regulation, 2058

What does it do?

• The Chief of Army Staff may appoint a Provost Marshal to head the Central Military Police unit at Army Headquarters. The Provost Marshal works under the control and direction of the head of the Adjutant General's Department (कार्यरथी विभाग). A woman military police member may be recommended for promotion to officer after five years at non-commissioned rank with the required training, or after two years if she has passed certificate level; the appointment needs Ministry of Defence approval.प्रधान सेनापतिले जङ्गी अड्डा अन्तर्गतको केन्द्रीय सैनिक प्रहरी गुल्मको पतिका रूपमा प्रभोष्ट मार्सल नियुक्त गर्न सक्छ। प्रभोष्ट मार्सलले कार्यरथी विभागका विभागीय प्रमुखको नियन्त्रण र निर्देशनमा काम गर्नुपर्छ। पदिक दर्जामा पाँच वर्ष सेवा गरी आवश्यक तालिम पूरा गरेकी वा प्रमाणपत्र तह उत्तीर्ण गरी पदिक दर्जामा दुई वर्ष सेवा गरेकी महिला सैनिक प्रहरीलाई अधिकृत पदमा बढुवाका लागि सिफारिस गर्न सकिन्छ; नियुक्तिका लागि रक्षा मन्त्रालयको स्वीकृति चाहिन्छ। Nepal Law Commission Rules 3 and 4A-4D, PDF pp. 1-3
• Military police may take control of a military vehicle if the driver has no licence or ID card, drives under the influence of alcohol or drugs, breaks traffic rules, is not authorised, carries illegal or banned items, drives a faulty vehicle, or goes off the assigned route. • To prevent accidents, military police may set up temporary checkposts on main roads and junctions and patrol on foot or by vehicle. When a military vehicle has an accident, they must reach the scene as soon as possible and make a preliminary report on the Schedule 1 form, then a final report on the Schedule 2 form for the Judge Advocate branch. • To keep discipline, military police may patrol likely trouble spots, watch suspected army personnel, check passes and ID outside barracks, and check vehicles and people entering military areas. On the order of the Adjutant General's Department head, they may arrest army personnel who break military law or harm the army's image or secrecy. • Military police also provide security and seating arrangements at army ceremonies, issue entry passes for army events and Army Headquarters, and may secure other government ceremonies on request. They carry out sentences given by military courts, guard accused persons in custody and in transfer, and take charge of people held for offences under the Military Act.
