What does it do?
- This short Act, passed by the Federal Parliament and published in the Nepal Gazette on 2083/05/31, revives the provisions of the Nepal Special Service Act 2042 as they stood before the Nepal Special Service (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2082 changed them. The 2082 Ordinance (published 2082/08/05, issued under Article 114(1) of the Constitution while Parliament was not in session) amended Section 4(1) of the 2042 Act to place the Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs instead of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. - The revived 2042 Act sets up the Nepal Special Service to maintain national security, run through the National Investigation Department and its offices. The Department can be assigned investigations by the government and its investigating officers may use the powers police have under the Police Act 2012; government offices and individuals must cooperate with its staff.
