What does it do?

• The Act covers the Secretary General of the Federal Parliament and the Secretaries of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. To be appointed one must be a Nepali citizen with a master's degree in law, administration, management, political science, economics or sociology, not have been a political party member immediately before appointment, and be at least 45 (Secretary General) or 35 (Secretaries). • The term is five years and renewable, ending at age 58. • The Secretary General is paid and given vehicle and fuel facilities equal to the government's Chief Secretary, and the Secretaries equal to a government Secretary; a retired official already drawing a government pension must choose either the pension or this pay. • An office-holder whose total government service, including service in this post, reaches 20 years receives a monthly pension of (years of service × monthly pay) ÷ 50; those with 5–20 years receive a gratuity of half, one or one-and-a-half months' pay per year of service. Family pension is paid for up to seven years after death.
