What does it do?
- Made by the Federal Parliament under Article 296(1) of the Constitution, the Act sets the pay and facilities of each Province Head (प्रदेश प्रमुख), the federal government's representative in a province. Schedule 1 of the consolidated text sets monthly pay at Rs 64,000, hospitality and contingency spending at Rs 40,000 a month (no bills required), and a dress allowance of Rs 18,000 a year; the Province Head also gets one month's pay a year for festivals and an extra month's pay on leaving office. - The federal government arranges an official residence in the provincial capital (or pays rent until one is available), furniture, vehicles and fuel, communications, a personal physician and full medical costs in Nepal or abroad on a medical board's recommendation. - The Province Head may appoint experts in numbers and on pay set by the federal government, and has a ten-post private secretariat (Schedule 3). The Province Head takes the oath before the President.
