What does it do?
- The Act sets out the work of the Muslim Commission created by Article 264 of the Constitution to protect the history, culture, identity, rights and interests of the Muslim community and empower it. 'Muslim' means the community the Government of Nepal defines on the Commission's recommendation. Chairs and members must be from the Muslim community with at least ten years' significant contribution to its rights, development or human rights, hold a bachelor's degree, be at least 45, and not be party members when appointed; they cannot be reappointed or later take other government jobs. - The Commission is based in the Kathmandu Valley and may open provincial offices; its structure and staff are approved and provided by the government. Bodies asked for help must give it. Gaps, loopholes and improvement ideas
- Not enforced Section 22 requires the annual report to include the status of implementation of the Commission's recommendations, but the Auditor General found that the Commission had not assessed, monitored or reported on how its past recommendations to the government and other bodies were implemented. Ideas to fix it
