What does it do?
- The Act sets out the work and procedures of the Language Commission established under Article 287 of the Constitution. On top of its constitutional duties (such as recommending languages for official use), the Commission identifies the mother tongues spoken in Nepal, recommends policy and institutional measures to the federal, provincial and local governments to protect and develop them, recommends programmes for mother tongues and scripts, studies and publishes their history, publishes or recommends books in these languages, studies how to make them technology-friendly, and keeps a roster of language experts for the national languages.यो ऐनले संविधानको धारा २८७ बमोजिम गठित भाषा आयोगको काम र कार्यविधि तोक्छ। संवैधानिक जिम्मेवारी (जस्तै सरकारी कामकाजको भाषा सिफारिस) का अतिरिक्त आयोगले नेपालमा बोलिने मातृभाषाको पहिचान गर्छ, तिनको संरक्षण र विकासका लागि सङ्घ, प्रदेश र स्थानीय सरकारले अपनाउनुपर्ने नीतिगत र संस्थागत उपाय सिफारिस गर्छ, मातृभाषा र लिपिका कार्यक्रम सिफारिस गर्छ, तिनको इतिहासको अध्ययन र प्रकाशन गर्छ, मातृभाषाका पुस्तक प्रकाशन गर्छ वा सिफारिस गर्छ, मातृभाषालाई प्रविधिमैत्री बनाउने अध्ययन गर्छ, र राष्ट्रभाषाका भाषाविज्ञको सूची तयार गर्छ। Nepal Law Commission Section 3, p. 2
- The Commission may consult other constitutional bodies and public agencies, hire experts when its own staff cannot do a task, form committees or task forces, and coordinate with government and public bodies; agencies must cooperate when it asks.
