The 2082 amendment added detailed rules on dishonoured cheques. Nepal Law Commission Sections 3–14, pp. 4–11
- Penalties depend on the amount involved (bigo): the offender must repay it and pay a fine equal to it, plus imprisonment on a scale rising with the amount. For a dishonoured cheque, the issuer must pay the amount with interest and a fine of 5 percent, with prison terms from up to one month (up to Rs 1.5 million) to two to four years (over Rs 100 million). People convicted and imprisoned under the Act are disqualified from working in banks and financial institutions. Nepal Law Commission Sections 15, 27, pp. 11–15, 20
- A complaint must be filed within one year of learning of the offence (for cheques, within a year of the dishonour being certified), and the Government, as plaintiff, must file the case within six months in the court it designates by Gazette notice (district courts for cheque cases). Suspects may be held in custody where evidence could be destroyed or the person is not resident in Nepal, foreigners' assets may be frozen, institutions must cooperate with investigators and cannot plead banking secrecy, and an accused who cooperates and testifies may receive full or partial immunity from the penalty sought. Nepal Law Commission Sections 17–26, pp. 15–19
