What does it do?
- The Act sets the pay, service conditions and benefits of the Attorney General. He receives the salary in Schedule 1, which the Government may increase by revising the schedule through a Gazette notice. On resignation, death or any other end of office he (or his family) receives one extra month's pay. Ten percent of monthly pay is deposited in a provident fund, matched 100 percent by the Government. Nepal Law Commission Sections 3, 19–20, pp. 2–3, 14–15
- In office, the Attorney General receives government housing (or a housing allowance), electricity, water and telephone, a car with driver and fuel, daily and travel allowances for official trips (Rs 7,000 per day as daily allowance under the schedule), insurance and air-travel cover, a clothing allowance, delegation-leader allowance, contingency and festival expenses, leave, and medical treatment costs. Nepal Law Commission Sections 4–16, Schedule, pp. 3–11, 16
- A person who served in a constitutional post or in government service before becoming Attorney General, and whose total service reaches twenty years or more, may choose a monthly pension of two-thirds of monthly pay or one calculated as total years of service × monthly pay ÷ 50; family pension and gratuity also apply. Nepal Law Commission Sections 17–18, pp. 11–14
