Nepal Scouts Act, 1993

What does it do?

• The Act sets up Nepal Scouts as an autonomous body, headquartered in the Kathmandu Valley, to involve children and young people in scouting on World Scout principles: building discipline, self-reliance and good character, and mobilising scouts for disaster rescue and relief, community service, adult literacy, health, environment and soil conservation work.विश्व स्काउटका सिद्धान्त र मान्यताअनुरूप बालबालिका र युवालाई स्काउट अभियानमा सहभागी गराई अनुशासित, स्वावलम्बी र चरित्रवान् बनाउन, र विपद्मा उद्धार तथा राहत, सामुदायिक सेवा, प्रौढ शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य, वातावरण र भू–संरक्षणका काममा परिचालन गर्न काठमाडौं उपत्यकामा केन्द्रीय कार्यालय रहने गरी नेपाल स्काउट स्वशासित संस्थाका रूपमा स्थापना गरिएको छ। Nepal Law Commission, Government of Nepal Sections 3–5, pp. 2–3
• The National Council is the top body, chaired by the Chief Scout (the Minister for Education and Sports), with the Chief Commissioner as vice-chair, three members of Parliament, secretaries of the youth, finance and women ministries, the Nepal Rastra Bank Governor, Red Cross, social workers, donors and two women and two men from each province. • Commissioners (up to 15) and a full-time Secretary are drawn from elected council members for four-year terms; two deputy chief commissioners, one woman and one man, are appointed.
