What does it do?
- The Act provides for a National Service Corps (Rashtriya Sewa Dal) to give students military training so as to strengthen loyalty to the country, develop a spirit of national service, make them disciplined citizens and build leadership. - Eligible university students may join the senior division and secondary-school students the junior division. Members leave when their term ends, when they stop being students or when removed under the rules. - The government may appoint university or school staff or others as Corps officers and may form an advisory committee on policy. A member who breaks the Act or rules can be fined up to Rs 100.
