Who we are
Policy Nepal is an independent, nonpartisan, self-governing and autonomous organisation. No party, government or funder directs our work, and no one can pay to change, remove or place anything on this site.
We are not a news organisation, a party or a campaign. Our job is to explain how Nepal is governed and to keep the public record in one place, so that people can judge for themselves.
Policy Nepal does not support or oppose any political party or candidate. We apply the same questions, evidence and standards to every party and public official, and we credit good work wherever it happens. We publish our own goals openly, and they never change how we report the record.
Where our information comes from
We do not invent anything. Every fact, figure, name and position on this site links to a source we opened — the Constitution, laws, official reports and data, court rulings, party documents or published research — with the page or section and the date we checked it. Official records lead for official acts.
We keep kinds of evidence apart: what the law requires; what governments plan, which shows intent rather than results; official data; independent research; what parties say; and representative surveys. Website polls are never presented as public opinion.
Where official sources disagree or information is missing, we say so. A missing record means “not established in the sources reviewed”, not that someone did nothing or holds a view. Our own analysis and options are always labelled as ours.
What we cover, and what we don’t yet
We cover national and provincial public office — both Houses of Parliament, the federal government and ministries, the seven provincial governments, the courts and the constitutional bodies — together with federal laws, the budget and debt, parties and national issues.
The 753 local governments and historical records are not yet covered. Names, offices and figures are shown as the official source published them on the date we checked; offices change, so always check that date.
Fairness when the record is disputed
An allegation, an investigation, a charge and a court judgment are different things, and we label them separately with dates and the latest outcome. Matters that could harm someone’s reputation are published only after editorial review, and the person’s response is published alongside.
Expert contributors
We invite people with real expertise in any policy area — law, economics, health, education, energy, agriculture, governance and more — to contribute analysis and ideas. We publish every contribution that meets the criteria below, including views we disagree with.
- Real name and a recent photo, published with your contribution. No anonymous or pen-name pieces.
- Identity verified before publication: a short video call in which you show a government-issued ID to our editor, or confirmation through an institutional email address or official profile. We never copy or store ID documents.
- Your area of expertise: qualifications, current role and relevant experience, published as a short author note.
- Interests declared and published: party membership or office, employer, funders or clients connected to the topic. Serving officials and party office-holders may contribute, clearly labelled as such.
- Facts sourced, opinions labelled. We check facts, sources and civility — not your point of view. Argue with ideas, not people; no campaigning.
- You keep the copyright and allow Policy Nepal to publish and translate your piece. Our corrections policy applies to contributions too.
